At Pace University, an Introduction to Computing course (CIS101) has been a core requirement for all of its students for the past 20 years. Up until the Fall 2002 semester, CIS101 was offered strictly in a traditional face-to-face format. The discussion board is where a lot of activity takes place in the online learning environment. Students will (or may) post questions and respond to discussion topics each week. It’s a good idea to post a new discussion topic each week so the students can reinforce what they are learning in other sections of the class. DISCOVERING OUR INNER CHEFS: A STRATEGY FOR ADVANCING BLENDED LEARNING
Blended learning in higher education continues to progress in promising new directions. At a
recent workshop on blended learning held this April by the Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C), in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Chicago, about 40 educators from around the country formed a general consensus that blended learning in higher education involves combining elements of online and classroom learning activities and is much more than simply "Web-facilitation," i.e., information and communication functions (syllabus, course announcements, and the like). SLOAN-C ANNOUNCES SUMMER ONLINE RESEARCH WORKSHOP
The Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C) is hosting an interactive online research workshop beginning on July 26. Developed with 40 researchers in the field of distance education, the workshop will cover critical information about online learning, including blended learning, assessment methodologies, improving student satisfaction, and increasing learning effectiveness.
