OBJECTIVES AND GOALS OF REGIS UNIVERSITY DISTANCE LEARNING
COURSE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
Phase 1:
Pre-Development
•
Prepare SMEs for course development process
•
Provide tools/job aids for course development process
and introduction to instructional design
•
Review workbook with SMEs (to be completed before
initial "Conceptualization and Design" meeting)
•
Establish timeline for deliverables
Phase 2:
Conceptualization and Design
•
Introduce the tools and templates and develop schemas
for use; this includes Universal Design Standards to be
met.
•
Conceptualize the sequence and brainstorm effective
strategies
•
Secure commitment of all stakeholders
•
Envision the basic structure, learning outcomes, and
general course content
•
Identify additional resources required
Phase 3: Content
Development
•
Deliver final course documents to production in clean,
proofread, final-draft format complete with special
instructions for graphics, multimedia, and other
supplemental components
•
Begin multimedia development as much as possible
•
Introduce the production team into the process
•
Ensure Universal Design Standards are met
Phase 4:
Production
•
Develop a production plan and assign resources
•
Prepare web, multimedia and graphical content for final
review
Phase 5: Quality
Assurance and Course Close-out
•
Ensure usability and navigability of all components
•
Prepare course for sectioning
Phase 6:
Summative Evaluation
•
Assess learning effectiveness including content,
multimedia, and technology; course may be modified
accordingly
•
Revise Facilitator Guide as needed
•
Ensure course files properly archived
•
Make recommendations for future changes or updates
