ABOUT LICENSING FEES FOR INTERACTIVE TELECOURSES

The average licensing cost structure of interactive telecourses is typically $500 per semester plus $22 per student. However, that is the “high-end, no-discount” rate, says Dallas TeleLearning’s National Marketing Manager Valerie Cavazos.

Actually, understanding the pricing options and licensing agreements for interactive telecourses can get cumbersome. There are multiple options that give students the ability to rent video tapes and CD-ROMs or purchase DVDs. There are also options for institutions to order master tapes and master CD-ROMs that can be duplicated.

Plus, there are consortium pricing agreements, where multiple institutions come together for purchasing power. And there are licensing discounts for multiple semester and multiple year arrangements.

“It is kind of like Burger King,” says Cavazos. “If a client needs it, we find a way to provide it, and a lot is dictated by the competition and the market.”
