ODDL'S 11 NODES

The Florida State University (FSU) Office for Distributed and Distance Learning’s (ODDL) website is comprised of 11 sub websites, called "nodes" that are all under redesign. Each node contains a substantial amount of information and resources. When taken as a whole, these nodes reveal a complex set of interrelated orbits, each defined briefly as follows:

Prospective Students - This is the recruitment/marketing-oriented website for attracting new students to FSU’s online degree programs. It provides easy access to admission and financial aid forms and other important information, such as overviews of online degree programs and a media-rich introduction to the online learning experience.

Current Students - Provides access to all services offered to students by ODDL, with particular focus on using course websites and the electronic campus, choosing courses, paying fees, and completing other student business, and accessing resources for learning.

Online Degree Programs - References and resources for current online students, in-depth program details for and recruitment of prospective students, as well as forms and tools.

Learning Via the Web - Instruction, resources, and best practices for using online technologies to learn on campus and online. Files and articles address a broad range of needs, from advanced Blackboard use to succeeding in an online environment.

Instructors - Provides access to all services offered to instructors by ODDL, with particular focus on enhancing teaching on campus and online.

Teaching Enhancement - Instructional support services available to instructors, including individual and group consultations and faculty development workshops. Also includes programs available to graduate assistants and students coordinated by the Instructional Design Services (IDS) staff.

Teaching Via the Web - Instruction, resources, and best practices for using online technologies to teach on campus and online. Files and articles address broad range of needs, from advanced Blackboard use to moving a face-to-face course to the web.

Using Blackboard - Provides instruction and resources for using a Blackboard website to support an on-campus or online course, including delivery of instruction and facilitating activities and collaboration. Also provides tools to request and administer Blackboard organization sites.

Staff and Administration - Provides access to all services offered to this constituency by ODDL, with particular focus on developing, promoting, delivering, and sustaining supported programs. Also provides staff with resources and tools for completing administrative businesses related to online courses and programs.

Assessment Services - Provides instructors and administrators with tools for requesting course evaluation packets and for viewing evaluation results. Provides the FSU community with services for administering surveys and exams and for reporting results. Also provides students and community with access to national, state, local, and course testing resources.

Digital Media - Provides faculty with information about the suite of digital and multimedia resources they can request for enhancing web-supported and distance-learning courses. Assists units with developing marketing and promotional initiatives, such as student recruitment and image-awareness campaigns. Includes easy access to work-request forms and to an image server.
